The last day of 2007!  Now we have to get used to writing 2008!
 
There are a lot of New Year's Eve dances tonight;  I hope you find one to attend and that you have a fun time welcoming in the new year.  Be careful driving home; others attended parties where they thought they needed stimulants to have fun, but we know better don't we?
 
Sorry for another late newsletter!  I slept in on my first business day of unemployment.  I was laid off Friday as my position was eliminated.  After 18 years with the company, I intend to find another position there after a couple of weeks off.  I guess God couldn't get my attention to take some time off and not work so hard, so he took my job away.  UPDATE:  I had this ready to go around 9:00 a.m. and then something happened and I lost the entire newsletter!  So I had to re-create it.
 
I regret that I am not being kept informed of new classes or changes in club schedules i.e. scheduled callers and cuers, cancellations, etc.  There a few dancers who try to keep me informed, but many times they don't have all of the details.  CLUB PRESIDENTS, CALLERS AND CUERS:  Please forward this information to me as quickly as possible so that I can forward it out to my 250+ distribution list.  There are several people on my list who then forward it out to their distribution lists so I have no idea how many people actually receive this information.  This newsletter is the fastest and most current means of communicating with the dancers, so please take advantage of it.

Health & Sympathy
 
 
Joe & Madeline Augenblick, retired cuers in Orlando and past presidents of the Round Dance Council, were in a car accident early in the month and were hospitalized.  On December 6th, Joe was complaining that he was having problems seeing.  He called the doctor to get an appointment and was able to get one for that afternoon.  As he was driving down his street, he didn't see his neighbor's car parked on the side of the street and he hit it.  He wasn't injured but Madeline was.  However, they were both taken to the hospital.  It was found that Joe had had a stroke.  He came home from the hospital on the 28th.  He is doing fine but is having problems with mobility and is on a walker.  Madeline injured a vertebrae in her neck and is scheduled for surgery on January 8th.  They have a nurse checking on them and she is scheduling therapy for Joe and is also getting help for both of them there at home.  Both of their sons have been there and one of them is still there with his wife.  They will be with them until at least January 11th.
 
Bob Raymond, past editor of Northeast Grapevine, has a small tumor on his pituitary gland.
 
Lawton Smith, a caller in the Northeast Association, is still recovering from cancer.
 
Peggy Ligon's mother passed away and the memorial service was on December 30th in Gainesville, FL.  Peggy's husband is Lon Ligon who is a caller in the Northeast Association.
 
Val Newsome, Florida Federation Treasurer, took a terrible fall Christmas Eve at her church as she and her husband, Charlie, were preparing for the candlelight/communion service.  She fell coming out of a building and sailed through the air landing on both knees (mostly on the left) and fell forward with her head hitting the brick wall of the church.  Needless to say the remainder of the week has been with her not doing much and Charlie being nurse, cook and dishwasher so to speak (Charlie's words).  She's healing (Val says she's got to have a good bones and a hard head!!).

Everybody is needed to make this a success.....
 
All square dancers are asked to go to the website for Dance America http://www.arts-dance.org/ and click on the left sidebar that indicates the date of February 29, 2008 and think of some locations for a benefit dance where we, as square dancers, can perform in front of a large group of people to attract them to square dancing and raise money as well for a good cause.  As the page explains, we want this to be a "history making event" and we need to work together. 
 
If anyone has ever coordinated an event in a mall, or any other place where a "large number" of people can see us perform, please call or email Flo Byington at 813-810-5548 or flobyington@yahoo.com.  This would be our "best advertisement".  Fun people having fun and wanting to share with the world our love of our activity.  We really don't have a lot of time left, but now that the holidays are drawing to a close we need to get working on this special event. 
 
We need ideas and volunteers to get this accomplished!  All the local clubs in the Tampa Bay Area are asked to participate and make this a huge success for square dancing. 
 
 
Somewhere I read or heard that the ARTS Council wants this to get into the Guinness Book of world records for having the most people dancing at the same time.  This will not be just square dancing; it will be all forms of dancing.
