Terri & Tim Wilaby
Tim retired from the Navy and lives in Pensacola, Florida, with his wife, Terri. They have two sons: Stephen, who participates in square and round dancing, and Christopher, who square dances. Tim is the general manager of a local bowling center and also manages its snack bar. Terri has served as the center’s bookkeeper and office manager.
Terri and Tim began square dancing in the late 1970s while living in Rota, Spain. In the late 1980s, while stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the square dance caller’s wife introduced them to round dancing. After returning to the United States, they devoted their time to guiding their two sons through the Boy Scout program, serving as Scoutmaster and Troop Committee Chairman for their troop. In 2000, they were able to resume square dancing, and in 2003, they finally had the spare time to begin round dance lessons.
As the number of cuers in the Panhandle began to decline, dancers looked for someone to provide rounds for the area. With generous guidance from cuers Lisa Wall, Sandy Sturgis, and Bryan “Dad” Gerdes, Terri and Tim decided to try cueing. Terri picked up the microphone, while Tim made sure she had everything needed to provide quality service for local dancers.
Terri and Tim currently cue and teach Phase II through Phase IV on Sundays for their club, TNT Rounds, which they founded in 2008. They have also cued dances in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi, as well as at several Florida and national conventions.
Terri and Tim served as General Chairmen for the 53rd Florida State Square and Round Dance Convention, “Follow the Bird to the 53rd,” and have served as Cuer Chairman and Co-Chairman for other Florida conventions. They have taught at Florida State and National conventions and are members of Roundalab, the association for dance leaders. They have served three terms on Roundalab’s Board of Directors, and Terri served two years as General Chairman. They have been members of the Round Dance Council of Florida for 14 years. They also edited the NWFSRDA newspaper, Panhandle Press, for 14 years. Terri completed two terms as Director of the Northwest Florida Caller/Cuer’s Association before it closed.
Terri and Tim coordinated the Showcase of Rounds for the 72nd National Square Dance Convention in Mobile, Alabama, in 2023. They are also serving as Vice Chairs of Rounds for the 77th National Square Dance Convention in Dayton, Florida, in 2028.
